Although located in a semi-arid area, good soils and modern farming techniques of moisture retention and minimum till have allowed signficant criops of forgage sorghum to be grown. Sorghum has allowed our cattle to be able to move up the value chain. For example: livex steers can move up into feeder steers or light cull cows can move to more favourable grids with heavier weights. Our climate allows sorghum to be planted at almost any time of year if we have enough soil mosture and modern varieties normally allow the plant to regrow for a second season. For example the photo of the Sugar Sweet sorghum above was taken early March 2026 but was sown and fully utilized in 2025.
